Interkulturalizmus ako Osud či
lepšie Fátum
Divadlo Stoka a jeho vpečatenia
Nástup chaosu alebo šialenstvo konca tisícročia, ktoré
predpovedá Timothy Leary vo svojej knihe Chaos a kyberkultúra/1994/ spája
úzko a jednoznačne s evolúciou ľudského mozgu. Z novej generácie /vytvárajúcej
epochu, či éru/ zrodí sa nová rasa, tvrdí Leary známy americký psychológ
kvetinovej generácie s čelenkou a ležérnou eleganciou obdarenou slobodou
tvorivosti načerpanou na beatových festivaloch 60. rokov. Generácia voľne
sa pohybujúca v psychedelickom delíriu revolúcií / všetkých už dnes neslávnych
s neslávnymi koncami a so záverom vyprázdnených pojmov/…na prahu svojej
predčasnej smrti pochopila aj o čom bude budúcnocť tretieho tisícročia.
“Dvadsiate prvé storočie bude svedkom novej globálnej kultúry”, tvrdí Leary
/s.l30/. A nová globálna kultúra bude utváraná a presadzovaná novou rasou,
videnej cez prizmu e-mailových a internetových komunikácií /odkiaľkoľvek
Európy, ktorej kultúry sa prepoja so samozrejmosťou s akou ich vidíme v
postmodernom americkom, či pseudoamerickom superfilme tvarovanom novou
digitálnou technológiou.
Bezpochyby obraz zo Sahary, kde púšťou lenivo kráča ťava
a nesie na svojom dvojhrbom chrbte moslimského šejka s walkmanom v ušiach
Majstrovstvá sveta vo futbale Paris 98 a ich teatralizovaný
úvod s 20 metrovými pohybujúcimi sa postavami /Mossa, Ho, Pedro, Romeo/
a množstvom podivuhodných zvieracích bytostí na chodúloch, v mobiloch s
rastlinnými mimikry či zvieracími metamorfózami. Aj takáto teatralizácia
/ napokon pripravovaná pravidelne divadelnými režisérmi a choreografmi
novonastolená globálna kultúra ako celkom nové videnie a cítenie sveta.
Jednoducho “komunikácia rýchlosťou svetla “a jej plody v čase a priestore
prístupmi multimediálnej divadelnej show.
Stoka.
/úryvok z inscenácie/
I am happy… Are you happy?…I am happy…Are you happy?…
Nie náhodou sa v inscenácii tohto neformálneho združenia
alternatívneho divadla objavuje zároveň angličtina, nemčina, či iné jazyky…
To je tá pravá semióza strednej Európy, kde sa premiešava krv mnohorozmernosti
maďarské, nemecké, či ukrajinské, poľské, české a rakúske prvky spracované
do jednoty mnohosti - do totálnej globalizácie, ktorou poznamenáva celý
hapy, are you hapy?
neviem/ cudzie a slovenské názvy približne v pomere 1:1.
tomto priestore v hrách slovenských autorov patrila vždy k štýlu a dobrému
rozmnožujú jej významy do asociácií.
svete a má svoje odchylky, a predsa zostáva univerzálnym kontextom ľudského.
I väčších národov.
Sujet pravidelne v predstavení osciluje okolo dvoch modov
vivendi: vo vnútri svojho tela a mimo tela.”
a spomínania.
postupy a sekvencie, dodávajú majstri pohybového umenia.
A napokon
snúbi životný postoj a štýl s umeleckým názorom. Vzácnosť
zrodená pri prameňoch globálnej kultúry v šesťdesiatych rokoch a donosená
u nás až v rokoch deväťdesiatych.
Postoj a životný štýl ho spríbuzňuje nielen s interkultúrovým
A.Mnouchkinová v súvislosti s univerzálnymi pohnútkami a prejavmi

Destiny or Fate
Stoka Theatre and its Imprints
The onset of chaos or the madness of fin de siecle foretold
by Timothy Leary in his book Chaos and Cyberculture (1994) are closely
and unambiguously linked with the evolution of the human brain. From the
new generation (forming the epoch or the era) a new race is born, maintains
Leary, the well-known American psychologist of the flower generation with
the head-band and nonchalant elegance endowed with the freedom of creativity,
drawn at Beat festivals in the 1960s. The generation moving freely in the
psychedelic delirium of revolutions (today already infamous, with infamous
ends and with the conclusion of emptied notions)É on the threshold of its
premature death, what the future of the third millenium will be about?
The 21st century will witness a new global culture", maintains Leary (page
130). The new global culture will be created and implemented by a new race
which will enforce human uniqueness. The fruition of this race, according
to Leary, goes back to the 1960s, since the years when each new generation
has been an epoch. It will be created by the human potential, the human
immortal, communicating at the speed of light". The new global culture
will be cyberculture. This notion not only conceals his idealistic, futuristic
vision of the future seen from the prism of e-mail and internet communications
(from anywhere to anywhere, at the cost of a local call), but also the
American vision of united Europe whose culture will be linked with a matter-of-factness,
as seen in the Postmodernist pseudo-American superfilm created by the new
digital technology. Undoubtedly the image of the Sahara where a camel lazily
walks across the desert, carrying on its two-humped back a Moslem sheikh,
with a walkman attached to his ears, and a Coca-cola advertisment attached
to his bottom, is the image of this globalization of culture. In the period
of totalitarianism in Europe, however, it was particularly this globalization
that signalled the semiosis of the unity of the world and a hope for spontaneous
development which pulled down the Berlin Wall. But also how the theatrical
opening ceremony of the grandiose festival of uniting through sport, the
world championship in football, Paris 1989, expressed this globalization
with four 20-meter high moving figures (Mossa, Ho, Pedro, Romeo) and a
number of strange animal creatures on stilts, in mobiles with floral mimicry
or animal metamorphoses. Such a theatralization (produced regularly by
theatre directors, choreographers, musicians, actors and dancers) is already
today a signal of culture globalization on the world-wide scale. Not recycled
cultures and their new product, but a newly established global culture
as an entirely new vision and perception of the world. Simply communication
at the speed of light" and its fruit in time and space through the approaches
of a multi-media theatre show. The European Union, however, will become
in the theatralization of the concrete world an open communication of global
culture, a blend of tastes, of cultural micro-worlds. As demonstrated in
the performance of Impasse from the Stoka Theatre.
(An extract from the staging):
I am happy... Are you happy?... I am happy... Are you
happy?...
It is not incidental that the staging by this informal
association of alternative theatre uses English, German or other languages
at the same timeÉ This is the true semiosis of Central Europe where the
blood of multi-dimensionality of cultural spectra is blended. Since long
ago, Slovak theatre functions on the base of Slovak, Hungarian, German,
Ukrainian, Polish, Czech and Austrian elements processed into the unity
of multitude - into a total globalization which marks its entire modern
development. As a spontaneous explosion of creativity, it then also displays
the ingredients of other cultural elements: Erika, ErikaÉ (video). Or as
operatic arias in Italian or German similarly like English speeches to
the public: I am happy, are you happy? Not so long ago, a Slovak residing
now at an American University complained that he cannot find in Bratislava
a sign saying kaviareň-reštaurácia", he can only find café" and restaurant"
(as a result he cannot persuade his students of Slovak language with authentic
photographs on common signs). He was not right, at least not literally,
that despite the language law (which, as other laws, has not been observed,
I do not know whether luckily or unluckily) he cannot find foreign signs
in the rate 1:1. It is a little better with the frequency of Slovak language
in theatre, where it prevailsÉ otherwise we would totally lose the audience
(contrary to cafés and restaurants). The ingredients of foreign elements,
however, is a matter of fact which, in this space, in the plays of Slovak
playwrights has always belonged to a good style and tone. Finally, Bratislava
itself originally had German and Hungarian theatre as well as Czech drama
ensembles (which even established the professional theatre as the Slovak
National Theatre). Pressburg, Poszon or Prešporok, as Bratislava was called
in the 19th century, was a trilingual city. Today, like all over the world,
English becomes the winner, the Latin of the third millenium, the computer
uni-language.
Uni-language as body language (gesture and movement in
space and time) We follow as the sequences and sudden cuts of situations
change in the performances of Stoka Theatre, as the gesture expressively
imprints on the open space in the heads of spectators.
We follow how comprehensively the uni-language acts, how
easily its meanings are multiplied into associations. From our experience,
we assume that everyone understands them, everyone regardless of the language
he speaks and the country where he comes from. We have never dicussed the
differences in the associative conscience, nor did we explore this associativeness
or comparative workshop. However, we assume, according to the reactions
of the audience, that the comprehensibility of the body language is almost
identical also in associative notions with our associativeness, at least
within European contexts. Here, uni" is not a prefix meaning unification
but universalism (universe).
Associativeness as uni-language (in gesture and situation)
Associativeness in the intercultural space is nothing
but an oversensitivity of spontaneous images. Those images are multiplied
after each touch of concreteness, of continuity, even after each slight
brush of the thought.
This spontaneous dynamism whirls inside, in the spiritual
world, and has its deviation, yet it remains the universal context of the
human. On this intercultural thread is woven the essential part of emotions
which man understands without words here body language is a telling part
of the universe.
Melancholic Central Europe
The melancholy of Central Europe does not originate in
its locality or the connections of the location in the world, but in the
context (the context of fate, of such nailed down nations, for which many
powers fight and which gnaw about their smallness or melt in it, in large
chalices of big or bigger nations). Therefore, Slovakia at the crossroads
of cultures permanently fights for its survival in a similar way as alternative
theatre in Slovakia. Surprisingly, theatre more than any other art suffers
from interculturalism and globalization (positively tuned). Hence, finally,
the grief of Central European fate, of global culture, is also a liberation
from the captivity of smallness and the joy of the universalism of comprehensibility,
of its mixture of languages and cultural unicommunication. Body language
and speech, as the language of images, go hand in hand with the religion
of a common Europe and its heritage.
Impasse
Impasse or blind alley of one's own path. In this blind
alley merge the influences of global culture, not only in its languages
(let us look at the extracts from the performance in English, German or
other sequences), but also in sharp cuts of the expression of body, gesture,
body language and imagination common to human beings. A live expression
is nothing more than a phantasm, an exalted adventure, which can be reduced
into the notion 'form formation' or organising or structuring." (Matho,
a mime, one from the duo Pinok Matho). If body language can be reduced
to notions, then it loses that what is essential: the emotion of expression.
The spontaneous emotion of experiences deciphered without words. The theme
of the performance regurlarly oscillates between two modi vivendi, inside
and outside its body. At the moment when the body becomes the body, the
body animated through emotion-gesture or idea-gesture is seen as the veiled
body, the overgrown body, the contained body, the body-receptor as well
as the body-emitter, the body provoking emotions even if it is mute", maintains
Matho. We are beyond our body at the moment of absorbing and recollecting.
And again in one's own body which attempts to reproduce the discovered
approaches and sequences, those are provided by the masters of movement.
Corporality as Body Art is a performance of enjoyment and an enjoyment
of performance. In the staging of Impasse, this enjoyment in his theatre
is formulated as loneliness by Uhlár. This is interacting loneliness, the
portraits of loneliness. In the staging of Nox, it is the monologue loneliness,
separated from the loneliness of an individual act. And finally, Stoka
Theatre stages Loneliness as a monologue statement in Faces and Monodramas.
This mono-thematism is an oscillation on the base of intercultural knowledge,
a persevered movement in the circle of loneliness, which is the universe,
so well known universally as the intercultural state. The director Uhlár
long resigned to the logic and reason and, therefore, the theme of multi-meaning
of solitude and loneliness belongs to his theatre as a mono-theme. It is
a lonely runner of Slovak theatre which gets along extremely well and in
a unique manner with the global intercultural loneliness, so well known
as the leitmotif of this century. Situational clusters are separately and
repeatedly used. Uhlár shows himself as a big lonesome being. He does everything
alone as Tolstoy made his shoes himself
The Traces of Stoka or inter-poly-multi captivation
The alternative Stoka Theatre from Bratislava expresses
the post-revolutionary Slovak culture. This is why it still keeps the pulse
of the present or, precisely because of that, it counts one by one the
seconds of the present to those lying on the ground in helpless loneliness
as a momentum. The Stoka association is a theatre community from Slovakia,
which blends the unique attitude towards life and style with artistic opinion.
This uncommonness originated in the sources of global culture of the 1960s
and has reached its accomplishment in the 1990s. The attitude and the life
style relate this theatre to the intercultural opinion of global lonely
beings, but also to the advocates of marginal manner of being, with the
consequence of attitudes which are paid for by the non-conformity of revolting
rebels. In its break-away from official streams, it is unmistakably related
with the streams of European art which does not stick to the national or
linguistic base, but searches for the essential and archetypal sources
and connections. In connection with universal stimuli of theatre and art,
Ariane Mnouchkine speaks about the expression of the subterranean river
which springs to the surface at different places of the world, always the
same river.
